Memories

Evan walked onto the field. No one there. (Unless you wanted to count the dead people, but Evan ignofred them.) Not even a shadow in sight. Good. He needed to be alone. For the time being, at least. He stood there. Remembering when he played ball. The swing of the bat, and the snap that sounded when the ball made contact. It was the best sound. He remembered his last game. They had won. He couldn't wait to get home and tell his mom. Then it happened. The Apocalypse. It was a blur. Evan couldn't remember much of that day. He didn't want to go home. He thought his mom would be dead.

He shook his head, trying to get rid of that day. He rolled the ball he had gotten from the Walmart in his hands. The bat and ball felt cool, rough, but nice. The touch soothed him. He hummed his favorite song, the one his mom and him would sing together. He walked up to home plate. He looked out. Open field. Beautiful, dark, open field. He threw the ball into the air. He knew he'd have to get it after hitting it, but it would give him a good work out after walking for two days and finding the Walmart.

The ball came down. SNAP! It went flying. Evan smiled. How he loved this game.

"Nice hit." a voice came from the shadows, the source of the voice would not show itself, for now. The only thing that was shown was sunlight reflecting of the a sword.

Evan turned around. "Thanks." He said with a grin. He put up one finger up to show a one minute, a ran to get the ball. He came back quickly.

The figure in the shadows blinked as he ran to get the ball, and came back. "DO you like baseball?" She asked in a Russian accent

"Yes. I absolutely love it. My favorite sport. I...I used to play..before the, er, apocalypse." He said, looking down towards his feet.

"Well I understand that. I surprised you haven't asked to see me or who I was usual people already do that." She put up her sword not caring if he saw it.

Evan looked up. "Hmm? Oh. I don't know. I trust people easily, I guess. But, since you mentioned it, maybe I could see you?" Evan asked.

"Well trusting easily could get you in a world of hurt." The voice said as it stepped out of the shadows. The once shadowy figure became a teen. "I am Katie. Who are you?"

Evan watched the figure step out, and in it's place was a girl. She had brown hair and brown eyes. She held a samurai sword in her hands. She was roughly nine inches shorter than him, and really thin. There was a certain air around her. "Er, oh, er...." Evan said, coming back to reality. "E-Evan." He said with a grin.

She tilted her head to the side, "Are you nervous about something, or did you see a decapitated body?" She said with a smug smile

"Er, none of thee above." He said, smirking back.

She looked over and and saw a be headed body, "Er... I think it is one of the above." She laughed. "What is it then?"

Evan blushed. "It's really, none of the ones you suggested. Your, er, not what I expected to see." He said looking down.

"What did you expect? A taco?" She laughed again.

Evan laughed along. "No, no. Like, I didn't expect, er, you to look, eh, this pretty...." He said. He was used to complimenting people as if it was nothing, but for some reason this was different.

"Well... uh.." She blushed "Well I could say your kinda cute." She said shyly.

Evan turned almost beat red. "T-thanks." He said. "Er, do you play baseball?" He asked, trying to break the tension.

Katie srugged "I never really tried." She stepped more out of the shadows.

"Wanna try?" He asked, holding up his bat and ball.

"I don`t know. I don`t want to make a fool of myself." She looked down sliding her foot in the dust.

"Hey, no one's here to watch, but me of course. But I won't laugh." He said, walking up to her.

"Are you sure you won`t laugh?" She asked with a weird look on her face.

"Give me a good reason why I would laugh?" Evan asked, handing her the bat.

"Cause I am gonna suck at this." She said in her Russian accent which she used half the time. She took the bat from him "Are you gonna throw the ball to me?" She asked with a sigh

"Er, I'll throw underhand, and softly. That way it shouldn't be easy to miss. And maybe if you do mess up a little, I can help you." He said with a smile.
